Mount Charleston, located northwest of Las Vegas, is the highest peak in southern Nevada and serves as the center of the Spring Mountains. The region includes forests, alpine slopes, steep canyons, and cooler temperatures compared to the Mojave Desert below. Residential communities such as Kyle Canyon and Lee Canyon provide access to recreational areas, which include hiking, skiing, camping, and scenic viewpoints. The diversity of elevation creates habitats for numerous plant and animal species rarely found in the surrounding desert region. Mount Charleston serves as both a natural escape for Las Vegas residents and a protected area supporting conservation, research, and year-round outdoor activity.
